Dunedin born and raised - artist Claire Te Au grew up with a passion for drawing from a young age.
After completing tertiary education where she majored in political science she travelled and lived in London for a period until she decided to take the plunge into becoming a full time artist in 2017.
Predominantly self-taught, Claire has spent years honing her own skills and developing her individual style. Working in acrylics, her process involves the application of many thin layers to create a real sense of depth and tone to her paintings.
Combining florals and wildlife has always been a passion for Claire. It has naturally become a way of telling stories and the narrative represents emotion in each individual work. She is heavily influenced by colour and often leans into a bold and bright palette.
